What you should know about a power inverter


A power inverter is a device that converts DC power (also known as direct current); to standard AC power (alternating current). It convert 12 volts to 150 volts of Dc into 220 volt to 110 volt, which transform the DC electricity produced by your battery into the alternating current electricity that is commonly used in most homes for powering lights, appliances and other gadgets. Or it is an electronic-power generator that generates electricity for domestic, office and industries uses. Its source of energy is from direct current source DC e.g. battery and solar panel.

Reason Why you should convert the DC of a battery OR cells in to an alternating current AC


Most of all our home appliances such as radio, television, air-conditions, refrigerator, fan, dvd players etc. work on alternating current AC. Since most electrical/electronic home appliances function with voltage between 220vac-240vac. It is clean that a battery cannot power. Take for instance, even due you use 20batterries connected in series that is (240vdc) to power your television or color television, it won’t work because it supposed to work on 240vac.



Note: The work of inverter is to transform the DC electricity produced by your battery into the alternating current electricity which is mostly use in powering our home appliances. Either 12vdc to 240vac and inverter can work on one or more batteries base on type. Some of the cells can be recharge after it has been used. An external source of direct current is used to recharge used rechargeable cells.

Disadvantages
Inverter is costly than fuel generator
It require external power source for charging battery after the battery has been used
Expensive when compared to traditional generators
There are no large capacity generators in the markets
The generators can power a few appliances for a short period


IN CONCLSION:

Inverters are used to operate electrical equipment from the power produced by a car or boat battery or renewable energy sources, like solar panels or wind turbines. DC power is what batteries store, while AC power is what most electrical appliances need to run so an inverter is necessary to convert the power into a usable form. For example, when a cell phone is plugged into a car to be Recharge, it supplies DC power; this must be converted to the required AC power by a power inverter to charge the phone.
