JOB SATISFACTION AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN KADUNA STATE

Abstract: 

 This study was on Job Satisfaction among Secondary- School Teachers in Kaduna State. The variables used for the research were effective leadership, motivation, morale, supervision of schools, promotion prospects, pay (salaries), allowances and staff training opportunity. The purpose of the research was to identify the factors which relate to job satisfaction and dissatisfaction among the teachers in the State. The research method used was the survey method. It was based on information gathered through questionnaire, interview and observation. The sample used was 586 teachers in all the six educational zones of the state.

 The statistical method used to analyse the data was the Pearson Product. Moment Correlation Co-efficient to test the hypotheses. This method was used to know the relationship between the variables and job satisfaction. All the eight null hypotheses were rejected. The study found that there was significant relationship between teachers' job satisfaction and each of the following variables: Effective Leadership, Motivation, Morale, School Supervision, Promotion, Salaries, allowances and opportunity for staff development. However, from the findings, the teachers were satisfied with effective leadership and school supervision and were dissatisfied with motivation, morale, promotion, salaries and opportunity for staff training.
